Inspired by Nature

Recently I have been exploring the medium of oil and cold wax and this has become a favourite means to develop a looser semi abstract style for my latest work

I also work in mixed media nd soft pastels, choosing the medium that instinctvely feels right to capture the essence of the scene I am working on.

My Motivation

“Exploring how light and shadow play out in the landscape is the major influence in all my work. My paintings are not simply representations of the landscape, but capture a moment in time. I strive to evoke a feeling for the viewer of being connected to something larger than themselves.

My curious and inquisitive nature developed from travelling and living abroad has been transferred into my painting journey. Creating layers of colours , textures and marks that slowly emerge into a landscape idea.

I want to push the boundaries of the mediums I use to explore and enjoy the journey wherever it may take me.”

“I want the viewer to have a ‘feeling” for the landscape they are looking at. I strive to capture an essence of the scene. This could be the time of day, the season or the weather, with something left for the viewers imagination. For example, wondering what is behind the mountains, further up the path or around the corner.” ‘Pat Richardson’

My Recent Exhibitions

I have exhibited in a number of open exhibitions in 2021, 2023 and 2025 and have had my work accepted in a number of local galleries.

I belong to a local art group where I have played a very active role, winning a number of awards within the art group and, more generally, at open exhibitions with the most recent being a second place at Garstang Open Art 2026.

I have also helped develop a gallery space in my local town and an Open Art Competition i 2024.
